Job Description:

The Summer Program Interns position serves the residents of San Felipe Pueblo. The incumbent, in coordination with and under the general direction of the Fitness Program Coordinator, will assist with implementation facilitating, data management, and direct participant engagement during the 8-week summer sport program. The Intern will encourage and enable community youth to build self-worth, decrease risk of chronic disease, promote a healthier lifestyle, and build trust that fosters a sense of belonging. Incumbents are required to adhere to the goals, objectives, and guidelines of the Pueblo of San Felipe and the Indian Health Service (IHS) Grant Management Guidelines.

Duites:

  • Enthusiastically represent Pueblo of San Felipe Health & Wellness department’s values and expectations by engaging in positive gestures of respect, courtesy and kindness to community member, coworkers and vendors and WARRIOR Project events.
  • Provides and implements daily and monthly fitness activities such as monthly fun runs, physical education, Exercise classes, Elderly Exercise classes, yoga and community-wide fitness promotional activities.
  • Assists with the Summer Sports Program’s Youth Fitness Class and WORRIOR Project events.
  • Assists with implementation of Health & Wellness department goals and objectives in activities accordance with Pueblo of San Felipe Tribal Administration and Council goals and objectives and Indian Health Service Grants Management guidelines.
  • Will provide support and implementing age-appropriate activities and programs such as programming ideas, physical fitness warm-ups, and other sports skills.
  • Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours. 
  • Assist with maintaining accurate records of summer program attendance, dietary restrictions.
  • Will follow all safety guidelines and procedures, forward all incident / injuries and weekly reports to the Fitness Coordinator.
  • Will guide and mentor students with positive role modeling and encouragement.
  • When assigned, assist clients with Fitness equipment and Health and Wellness protocol.
  • Will guide and mentor students with positive role modeling and encouragement.
  • Maintains fitness / soccer grounds and provide safe environment for clients.
  • Assists with daily recreation and physical activity in coordination with the Summer Sports Program.
  • Must attend all scheduled field trips and monitor program participants to and from field trip sites.
  • Assist with maintenance of fitness center and storages.
  • Will be responsible for daily set-up and breakdown of program supplies and equipment.
  • Will be responsible for weekly inventory of Program equipment and supplies.
  • Provide assistance during all Fitness Program and WARRIOR Project events.
  • Must engage with children and participate in daily activities.
  • Must understand and follow HR and Health & Wellness internal Fitness Program policy and Procedures.

Qualifications:

Incumbent High School Senior, incoming Senior and college student with experience working with children and adults in fitness related activities.  Is culturally competent to the fitness and wellness community practices and demonstrates a high ability to effectively communicate in Keres languages.

  • Education: Incoming Highschool Senior, graduating Senior or college student.
  • Experience/Basic Knowledge: Good organizational skills, planning, and executing seasonal activities, events, providing crucial support to staff while developing professional skills, facilitating, and direct participant engagement. Intern will focus on hands-on experience, often requiring strong communication and flexibility.
  • Required Licenses/Certifications: School ID, State ID or Driver license.  Must obtain a CPR, AED and First Aide certificate. 18 and over must pass background check and drug screening.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to consistently exercise, bend, stoop, run, spin, sit and stand for long periods. Must be able to lift 50lbs.

Lifting and carrying is necessary to set up equipment for special events.

Preferences: Possess a valid State and Government identification or school ID. Bilingual, Keres and English speaking preferred.

Working Conditions:

Works at a fitness campus, soccer field, other indoor and outdoor fitness/recreational areas. Actively engages through physical movement and fitness activities.
