Solid Waste Technician II

The Solid Waste Tech II position shall help in the day-to-day operations of the Solid Waste Division.

Job Description:

The Solid Waste Tech II position shall help in the day-to-day operations of the Solid Waste Division (SWD) to include assist with residential solid waste pick up and disposal, cleaning and maintenance, the operation of trash trucks and associated equipment, and driving trash trucks to the Sandoval County landfill.

Duites:

Responsible for routine maintenance of trucks and equipment. Use of a variety of hand tools (i.e., shovels, rakes, sledge hammers, power drills, power saws, grease gun, air tools, etc.). Responsible for performing any additional work by following instructions of the foreman and any other individuals identified by the foreman for Solid Waste projects to be undertaken by the SWD. Must be available to work outside of normal duty hours as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Class B Commercial Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Solid waste experience is preferred desired, but not required. Must be able to operate trash trucks: training will be provided on basic vehicle operation and safety procedures. Must be able to follow direction and demonstrate familiarity with a variety of hand tools. Assist with the completion of solid waste-related projects. Responsible for learning and complying with all departmental safety requirements and for attending required training as necessary.

  • Required Licenses/Certifications: A valid driver’s license, and a Class B Commercial Driver’s License. 
  • Physical Requirements: The physical demands require outside work in all seasons and for prolonged periods of time. May require driving in variable weather conditions. Requires walking in undeveloped and uneven terrain.
  • Preferences: San Felipe Member Preference, Native American Preference and Veteran’s Preference.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Keres speaking is desirable.
