Job Description:

This is a community-based position that serves residents of the Pueblo of San Felipe. This position supports the Indian Health Services (IHS) and Behavioral Health Program providing warm hand-offs from medical appointments and follow-up psychological counseling and/or providing referrals as needed. The incumbent provides a range of psychological assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic, and case management services for individuals, groups, and families as appropriate to the specific expectations of the position. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Behavioral Health Program Administrator and coordinate care through the Indian Health Service (IHS).

Duites:

  • Provides Psychological Evaluations and Interventions of individuals referred to the San Felipe Behavioral Health Program (BHP) based on contractor’s knowledge and training in determining appropriate behavioral health therapy: Full range of child and adult psychological services, including crisis management, coping with acute/chronic illnesses, and stress management, clinical psychological evaluations related to suicidal ideation, involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations, diagnoses, and other serious mental illnesses with emphasis on suicide prevention and chronic alcohol and substance abuse treatments.
  • Provide psychological and pharmacological evaluations for adults, adolescents, and children and prescriptions per licensure with supervision of Indian Health Service clinicians.
  • Provide Psychological consultation of individuals cases to medical, health care providers and designated staff and other providers deemed as medically necessary in meeting patient needs.
  • Aid in the development of a crisis protocol with prevention, treatment and IHS health clinic for improved coordinated care.
  • Provide consultation on the design and development of the Triage System of intake, assessment and assignment for services for the prevention and treatment team. Assist in the refining and modification of the referral system to improve efficiency and increase cultural appropriateness for the San Felipe Community.
  • Proficient in electronic records and timely documentation. Provides caseload management; prepares individualized services for outpatient and inpatient placement and discharge as applicable.
  • Timely billing and client file entries consistent with the San Felipe BHP Policies and Procedures as required. All billing and charting will meet Medicaid audit requirements and code of conduct the profession.
  • Maintenance of valid State of New Mexico State Board of Psychologist Examiners NM licensure as a Psychologist or Psychiatrist, MD and Medicaid/Medicare provider along with malpractice insurance is required.


SUPERVISORY RESPONDIBILITIES: Incumbent does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Doctorate in Psychology
  • Experience/Basic Knowledge:
  • Experience practicing in a family-centered environment.
  • Experience practicing in a culturally and linguistically diverse setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding and acceptance of working as a member of a multidisciplinary team and familiarity with the wraparound approach to comprehensive community-based care.
  • Experience in collaborating with family members, youth and community cultural stakeholders through active involvement with the community.
  • Demonstrated positive experience with:
    a. Ability to apply mental health counseling methods and techniques.
    b. Knowledge of community mental health resources including traditional modalities.
    c. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
    d. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
    e. Knowledge of case management.
    f. Knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, programs and methodology.
    g. Knowledge and understanding of clinical mental health psychology, counseling and social work principles, methods, procedures, and standards.
    h. Ability to apply mental health counseling methods and technique.
    i. Knowledge of community mental health resources including traditional modalities.
    j. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
    k. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
    l. Knowledge of case management.
    m. Knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, programs and methodology.
    n. Knowledge and understanding of clinical mental health, psychology, counseling, social work, peer support specialist paraprofessionals and principles, methods, procedures, and standards.
    o. Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic treatments and to make individual modification.
    p. Ability to maintain an effective regimen of self-care.
    q. Knowledge of psychological test administration, scoring and interpretation.
    r. Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients’ rights
     
  • Required Licenses/Certifications: Prefer a valid driver’s license. Must have a NM licensure prescribing psychologist and psychiatrist.
  • Physical Requirements: Must have manual dexterity to enter and retrieve data from a computer. Ability to sit and stand for long periods. Bends and stoops regularly.
  • Preferences: San Felipe Preference and Veteran’s Preference.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to work effectively in a multi-lingual environment with a translator.
OMPUTER SKILLS: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including: Windows, Word, Access, and Excel, Knowledge of electronic records and EMR-bear preferable.
HYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work requires driving and involves standing, bending, and walking within the community, schools, clinics, and homes and drive a car in all types of road conditions. Lifting and carrying is necessary to set up equipment for special events, clinics, and teaching programs.
