Health/Nutrition Coordinator
Incumbent will work in planning and directing a variety of health and nutrition related activities.

Job Description:
Performs a variety of duties in administrative and professional work in planning and directing a variety of health and nutrition related activities in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards.
Duites:
- Mandatory reporter of all suspected incidents of child abuse and neglect.
- In the event of a disaster, Head Start employees are required to provide assistance in accordance with the tribe’s Emergency Operations Plan or their level of training (CPR and/or First Aid).
- All San Felipe Pueblo Head Start applicants must submit mandatory criminal background check information to the Human Resources Director before employment with the program or following any conviction occurring after commencement of employment.
- Must follow a Drug-Free Work Place Policy and follow the intent of the Drug-Free Work Place Act.
- Must have annual physical and TB screening.
Health/Nutrition Service responsibilities:
- Coordinates health and dental screening and identifies special health needs the children may present.
- Upon entry to the classroom, a temperature check will be given to the child.
- Ensure the sick child policies and CDC guidelines are provided to staff and parents. (gloves and masks are standard)
- Establish an MOU with the elementary school nurse or clinic medical provider to provide services to sick children when identified.
- Provides health and dental, and nutrition related training for the Head Start parents and staff.
- Develops nutrition, health and dental work plans.
- Within the 45 days of school, coordinate vision and hearing screenings of all children enrolled in Head Start and do follow-ups.
- Coordinates with outside resources to conduct nutritional activities at least once a month in the classroom with the teaching staff.
- Monitors classes and teachers to ensure health, dental and nutrition Performance Standards are implemented.
- Works closely with nutrition consultants to identify special health/nutritional needs of children.
- Monitors each classroom at least twice a month for adherence to serving family style meals.
- Serves as an advocate between the Head Start program, consultants, and parents.
- Participates in training sessions and meetings relevant to Head Start and position.
- Promotes environmental health and safety practices and disseminates health, dental, and related information to the community through the Head Start newsletter.
- Assists in the recruitment and enrollment of children.
- Follows the Health/Nutrition work plans and makes revisions as necessary.
- Plans and coordinates Head Start Health Services Advisory Committee meetings with school –based health clinic.
- Assists in the preparation of menu planning, supervises and monitors kitchen staff to ensure documentation and recordkeeping are accurate.
- Prepares and submits quarterly/annual reports to the Director.
- Prepares memorandum of agreement or partnership agreements with local and outside resources
- Maintains accurate health and dental records on all enrolled children and periodically reviews records to identify nutritional, health and dental needs of the children and families.
- Submits monthly nutrition reports to the USDA state office.
- Uses Child Plus recordkeeping system to generate reports.
- Completes computer generated Program Information Report (PIR) for transmission to the Head Start Bureau.
- Assists in the recruitment and enrollment of children, and in Child Find activities.
- Submits monthly monitoring reports to Director that includes component area highlights, statistical information on health and nutrition activities, problems experienced and future goals and objectives.
- Prepares and submits reports to Director, based on Head Start Protocol monitoring and component area work plans.
- Participate in the annual self-assessment as a team leader.
- Actively pursue BA degree.
- Participate in meetings, conferences and trainings to expand personal knowledge and understanding of early childhood development, health services, nutrition services, Head Start Performance Standards and any Head Start Initiatives.
- Attend all staff meetings, planning sessions and other related workshops or trainings.
- Follow rules and regulations as set forth by the Tribal Council in Tribal Personnel Policies and Procedures.
- Adhere to Head Start Performance Standards, and follow Head Start in-house Policies and Procedures.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Associate degree(AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or university, or technical school;
- One year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience/Basic Knowledge:
- Must have good communication skills with staff and parents.
- Good knowledge in computer skills.
- Training/experience in the area of health and nutrition preferable.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules.
- Ability to comprehend and respond to common inquiries and write reports, correspondence and memos.
- Ability to effectively present information before groups of parents or employees.
- Ability to converse in both Keres and English languages
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Prefer a valid driver’s license.
- Must have a food handlers certificate and must maintain a current CDA licensure.
- Must have and maintain a valid CDL-S drivers license.
- Physical Requirements: Must have manual dexterity to enter and retrieve data from a computer. Ability to sit and stand for long periods. Bends and stoops regularly. Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Preferences: San Felipe Preference and Veteran’s Preference.
Working Conditions:
Works in office. Sits for long periods of time and types. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
