Early Childhood Licensed Mental Health Therapist (CONTRACT)

(ECMHT) is responsible for providing mental health consultation support to Head Staff, children and families.

Job Description:

Early Childhood Mental Health Therapist (ECMHT) is responsible for providing mental health consultation support to Head Staff, children and families. The ECMHT, will provide a broad range of services, including early childhood mental health service in classrooms; providing training to parents and staff; screenings; evaluations; assessments; and referral services. The ECMHT will also collect data, maintain records, and support compliance in all facets of the Head Start Performance Standards and State regulations.

Duites:

  • Provide child development information related to social-emotional development and mental health.
  • Provide guidance to staff on selecting, implementing, and interpreting social-emotional screening and assessment tools and findings.
  • Provide written and oral observations and strength-based feedback to classrooms in the areas of social, emotional, and behavior skills that are related to the performance standards.
  • Collect data and update records and enter notes in children’s files.
  • Provide therapeutic art services to children, services includes one-to-one, small groups, or full inclusion in the classroom.
  • Record daily, quarterly, and the end of the year reports on children receiving services to be shared with parents.
  • Support, coordinate, and provide staff training related to social-emotional and mental health issues at least once per quarter.
  • Coordinate and facilitate parent trainings.
  • Conduct observations and assessments of individual children as assigned or referred for consultation.
  • Meet with families to consult on child and family needs and create or follow-up on plans to support these needs.
  • Conduct standardized developmental, behavioral, and/or social-emotional screens and assessments for individual children as assigned or referred for consultation.
  • Provide child and family referral and follow-up to community services.
  • Participate in regular supervision with Disabilities/Mental Health Coordinator and Head Start Director.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree required, preferably in Psychology, Counseling, or related field.
  • Current Clinical licensed mental health professional (LPC, LPC-A, LCSW, LMSW)
  • Minimum of 2 years direct experience in a mental health setting providing preventions services and/or mental health therapy to children and families.
  • Must pass a sex offender and thorough background check.
  • Must pass a drug/alcohol test

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrate understanding of early childhood mental health.
  • Demonstrate understanding of differences in mental health services and concepts across cultures.
  • Demonstrate experience with clinical documentation formulation and writing assessments, and supports plans, preferably in young children.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with staff and families
  • Partner with providers as a member of a diverse team.
  • Lead and facilitate trainings.
  • Conduct standardized screens and assessments, preferably for young children.
  • Use results of screens and assessments to guide work with families, set goals, and develop individualized plans.
  • Lead and conduct EDT and IEP meetings.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Organize tasks and manage time effectively.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to manage physically active children ages 3 to 5, including guiding, pursuing, and withstanding sudden movements.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have valid Driver’s License.
  • Maintain First Aid and CPR certification
  • Must pass background check.
