Job Description:

Under the general direction of the HS Director but working closely with Facility Maintenance. The incumbent is responsible for performing Custodial/Housekeeping duties, and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that Head Start facilities are maintained in a health, safe, and sanitary manner.

Duites:

  • Clean and care for buildings and facilities in order to ensure they are maintained in a safe and healthy manner.
  • Communicate well with Supervisor and Co-workers as well as other employees or visitors to buildings.
  • Work as team player and ensure the Employee Handbook is followed.
  • Keep strict confidentiality.
  • Clean classrooms, offices, dining area, hallways, and recreational areas (Auditorium)
  • Sweeping, vacuum, mopping and dust each classroom
  • Keep outdoor playground and landscaping clean, weed free and watered.
  • Ensure the sandbox is cleaned of animal debris/feces
  • Inspect/Repair all playground equipment for loose bolts, rust, spiders etc.
  • Dust all furniture and fixtures as required.
  • Wash and disinfect all restroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, and fixtures, clean all mirrors, replenish toilet tissue and soap as needed.
  • Empty all waste baskets and garbage cans.
  • Place garbage in outside storage bins.
  • Clean entrance and exit including glass, doors and hardware.
  • Keep outside area near exit and entrance clear of snow, cans, paper, etc.
  • Clean, wash and disinfect drinking fountains.
  • Wash all finger marks from walls, doors, hardware and glass.
  • Vacuum and dust all window seals.
  • Perform and/or report minor maintenance repairs.
  • Report damages and acts of vandalism.
  • Wash and buff floors with floor polisher
  • Wash entrance and exit floors
  • Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner in order to ensure the safety of staff and the public.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of cleaning materials and supplies.
  • Restock materials and supplies and compile list of supplies needed to order
  • Make note of the need for equipment repairs.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Conduct and document monthly fire drills
  • Conduct and document emergency bus evacuation
  • Conduct and document other emergency preparedness drills
  • Assist with building maintenance as needed (i.e. gutter and pool of water/ice at end of entrance ramp, snow/ice removal)
  • Assist with the cleaning and upkeep of program vehicles (service maintenance, vacuum, and wash)
  • Assist with bus monitor duties.

Qualifications:

  • Education:  HS Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Required to be a mandated reporter of all suspected incidents of child abuse and neglect.
  • Annual physical examination and TB test.
  • Must pass a driver’s license check.
  • Must possess a CPR/First Aid Certification or willing to obtain within a certain timeframe.
  • Must possess a food handler’s certificate or willing to obtain within a certain timeframe.
  • Other Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test.
  • Must pass a thorough background check.
  • Must pass a sex offender registry check.
  • Preferences: San Felipe Preference and Veteran’s Preference.

  • Must have effective verbal and listening communication skills.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is a physically demanding position.
  • Must spend the entire time at work standing, walking, lifting heavy objects
  • Must be able to life 50 lbs.
  • Bends and stoops regularly.
