Job Description:

This is a community-based position that serves residents of the Pueblo of San Felipe. This position supports the Indian Health Services (IHS) providing warm hand-offs from medical appointments and follow-up psychological counseling and/or providing referrals as needed. The incumbent provides a range of psychological assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic, and case management services for individuals, groups, and families as appropriate to the specific expectations of the position. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Behavioral Health Program Administrator.

Duites:

  • Provides counseling to clients and families as appropriate to the position and crisis-based intervention; prepares assessments, treatment plans, discharge plans and follow-up care including psychoeducation, medication adherence, and emergency services working closely with medical personnel as applicable.
  • Collects information about patients through interview, observation, case history, and psychological testing as applicable; evaluates information to identify causes of presenting problems and to determine proper therapeutic approach including referral to other specialists.
  • Proficient in electronic records and timely documentation. Provides caseload management; prepares individualized services for outpatient placement and discharge as applicable.
  • Consults project KEVA Maternal Infant, Infant, and Childhood home visiting program on meeting the mental health needs of their clients and providing treatment referrals when appropriate to Behavioral Health counseling.
  • Consults with other therapists and related professional and paraprofessional staff; refers patients to service agencies as appropriate for patient care.
  • Participates in the review of clinical issues and program policies and procedures.
  • Participates in, leads, and/or coordinates training sessions and workshops to enhance or develop treatment skills as appropriate.
  • May lead Peer Specialists in performance of clinical duties. Works collaboratively with Systems of Care (SOC) to meet community needs.
  • Coordinates and integrates activities with other departments of San Felipe including: Health and Wellness, Education, Tribal Courts, Head Start and all others deemed necessary for appropriate sharing of resources and services to benefit the Pueblo of San Felipe.
  • As “Essential Staff” may be required to be available for on-call duty coverage and must be prepared to work on days determined to be Tribal Holidays or Administrative Leave.

SUPERVISORY RESPONDIBILITIES: Incumbent does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Doctorate in Psychology
  • Experience/Basic Knowledge:
  • Experience practicing in a family-centered environment.
  • Experience practicing in a culturally and linguistically diverse setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding and acceptance of working as a member of a multidisciplinary team and familiarity with the wraparound approach to comprehensive community-based care.
  • Experience in collaborating with family members, youth and community cultural stakeholders through active involvement with the community.
  • Demonstrated positive experience with:
    a. Ability to apply mental health counseling methods and techniques.
    b. Knowledge of community mental health resources including traditional modalities.
    c. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
    d. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
    e. Knowledge of case management.
    f. Knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, programs and methodology.
    g. Knowledge and understanding of clinical mental health psychology, counseling and social work principles, methods, procedures, and standards.
    h. Ability to apply mental health counseling methods and technique.
    i. Knowledge of community mental health resources including traditional modalities.
    j. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
    k. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
    l. Knowledge of case management.
    m. Knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, programs and methodology.
    n. Knowledge and understanding of clinical mental health, psychology, counseling, social work, peer support specialist paraprofessionals and principles, methods, procedures, and standards.
    o. Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic treatments and to make individual modification.
    p. Ability to maintain an effective regimen of self-care.
    q. Knowledge of psychological test administration, scoring and interpretation.
    r. Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients’ rights.
    s. Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops
     
  • Required Licenses/Certifications: Prefer a valid driver’s license. Must have a NM licensure counseling psychologist.
  • Physical Requirements: Must have manual dexterity to enter and retrieve data from a computer. Ability to sit and stand for long periods. Bends and stoops regularly.
  • Preferences: San Felipe Preference and Veteran’s Preference.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to work effectively in a multi-lingual environment with a translator.
  • COMPUTER SKILLS: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including: Windows, Word, Access, and Excel, Knowledge of electronic records and EMR-bear preferable.

The work requires driving and involves standing, bending, and walking within the community, schools, clinics, and homes and drive a car in all types of road conditions. Lifting and carrying is necessary to set up equipment for special events, clinics, and teaching programs.
