Job Description:
Performs a variety of duties of average difficulty to plan and prepare food for children and/or staff; maintains sanitary conditions that meet or exceed environmental health food preparation and safety codes; operates within the program budget and coordinates the budget with the Health/Nutrition Coordinator. Orders and maintains adequate food, supplies and equipment.
Duites:
- Mandatory reporter of all suspected incidents of child abuse and neglect.
- In the event of a disaster, Head Start employees are required to provide assistance in accordance with the tribe’s Emergency Operations Plan or their level of training (CPR and/or First Aid).
- All San Felipe Pueblo Head Start applicants must submit mandatory criminal background check information to the Human Resources Director before employment with the program or following any conviction occurring after commencement of employment.
- Must follow a Drug-Free Work Place Policy and follow the intent of the Drug-Free Work Place Act.
- Must have annual physical and TB screening
- May be assigned to bus monitoring duties.
Responsibilities:
- Manages the kitchen and supervises parent volunteers.
- Works with Cook Aide in planning, purchasing, preparation, orientation and serving of nutritious meals.
- Performs meal preparation as prescribed in monthly menu.
- Prepares and maintains menu, meeting all USDA requirements.
- Maintains up-to-date records and files for food inventory, and daily lunch count
- Trains kitchen staff; attends annual nutrition training with Health/Nutrition Coordinator.
- Provides nutrition training for teaching staff and parents.
- Working with teaching staff and parents to prepare menus; assures parents input into menu planning.
- Attends workshops and training in the area related to the position.
- Prepares food, provides set-up, serving, and clean-up of special events such as Head Start Christmas program and end-of-year Promotion/Graduation ceremony, and other special events as required.
- Orders food and non-food products as needed; pick up orders when necessary.

Qualifications:

- Education: High School diploma or general education degree (GED); and one-year related experience and/or training.
- Experience/Basic Knowledge: Must have knowledge of nutrition, health and sanitation to provide minimum related services. Adheres to Head Start Performance Standards and IHS Environmental Health and Food Survey requirements.
- Required Licenses/Certifications: Prefer a valid driver’s license. Must have a food handlers’ certificate and must have and maintain current First Aide/CPR. Must have a Manager Level Food Safety Training certificate within 6 months of hire.
- Physical Requirements: Must have manual dexterity to enter and retrieve data from a computer. Ability to sit and stand for long periods. Bends and stoops regularly. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Preferences: San Felipe Preference and Veteran’s Preference.
Working Conditions:
