Agriculture Skilled Labor – 3 FT

Job Description:
The incumbent will serve as an Agriculture Program team member, and will be responsible for assisting with all tasks related with agricultural field work, irrigation work and assisting Tribal Administration and the Department of Natural Resources as directed for the Pueblo of San Felipe.
Duites:
- Ability to work well within a team and to follow supervisor’s direction
- Safely performing tasks involving physical labor including field preparation, irrigation, monitoring, harvesting, hauling bales, rotating pasture and range, working to ensure good crops and other associated tasks.
- Collaborates, assists and works as a team with other Agriculture Program and DNR staff members in meeting deadlines on work projects.
- Collaborating and communicating on water flows in the ditch and irrigation times.
- Communicating equipment difficulties, injuries, challenges in the field, etc.
- Safe operation, regular maintenance and accurate inventory of tools, vehicles or other Pueblo/ DNR equipment.
- Notifying supervisors of any accidents, or incidents which take place at the job site.
- Assist supervisor in documenting and keeping field records on crop production, bales, seed stock, corn, etc.
- Other tasks include offseason work on irrigation system and field irrigation systems, brush clearing, hauling machines, wood and equipment.
- Inspection and initiation of repairs, improvements and installation of infrastructure for the Pueblo, as directed.
- Ability to properly operate a tractor, equipment and other heavy equipment a plus.
- Adhering to all Pueblo of San Felipe Employee Policies and Procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Incumbent must have the ability to work effectively within a team, follow written and verbal instruction related to the Agriculture Program and Natural Resources Department.
- Must be able to solve problems and take the initiative to do so by using common sense, and by following directives.
- Must be willing to learn and become informed on additional skills and take on new tasks and responsibilities.
- Incumbent must have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the Tribal Administration, DNR and tribal community.
- San Felipe tribal member and Keres speaking is preferred.
- Must have the ability to work within the cultural and traditional aspects of agriculture in the Pueblo.
Qualifications:
- Education: HS Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience/Basic Knowledge: one to three year’s of related experience; mechanical ability a plus
- Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license required, must be insurable under tribe’s insurance
- Physical Requirements: Physical demands include the ability to work a full day outdoors in all types of weather. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs, and walk long distances carrying tools and/or equipment.
- Preferences: San Felipe Tribal Member, Keres Speaker Preference and Veteran’s Preference.
