Solid Waste Lot Attendant

Incumbent will assist the public with unloading and sorting solid waste and recycle materials at the transfer station.

Job Description:

Incumbent will assist the public with unloading and sorting solid waste and recycle materials at the transfer station.  Work includes maintaining the site in neat and clean conditions, provides information about operations and policies to customers; assists disabled customers and other related duties listed below.

Duites:

  1. Greet and direct incoming vehicles to proper disposal areas, for solid waste and recycling. This includes separation of materials, including used oil, paint, electronic waste (televisions, computers) etc.
  2. Maintain the transfer station in accordance with guidelines and ensure safety procedures are followed and proper safety equipment is utilized. Ensure the transfer station is kept clean, maintain household hazardous waste area. Install signage and labels to proper disposal areas.
  3. Represent the Pueblo in a professional manner at all times. Perform work assignments in a prompt, efficient and safe manner. Commitment to maintain a good working relationship with community members and co-workers.
  4. Communicate with Tribal Administration, Tribal employees and Community members regarding matters of concern to the department.
  5. Maintains daily record of site activities and number of visitors.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Willingness to learn and work independently. Ability to operate hand tools, heavy equipment a plus. Knowledge and ability to follow all general safety procedures and practices. Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety rules and regulations in transfer station equipment operation a plus. Will be responsible for learning and adhering to all safety requirements and be required to attend training as needed.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid driver’s license. 

Physical Requirements: The physical demands require outside work in all seasons and for prolonged periods of time. Also subject to possible inclement weather, mud, foul odors. May require driving in variable weather conditions. Requires walking in undeveloped and uneven terrain. Ability to manually lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Preferences: San Felipe Tribal Member, Native American Preference. Keres speaking is desirable.
