Job Description:

Incumbent is a Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) who is also certified in Mental Health First Aid, Project Venture, and QPR to provide prevention and grant required-services in accordance with Pueblo of San Felipe Tribal Administration and applicable federal grant(s). Incumbent is a Keres speaking San Felipe tribal member with previous experience in care management and will work to empower youth, students and adults of the San Felipe community to cultivate healthy behaviors; encourage and support coordinated, systemic approaches to the prevention of suicide and other behavioral health challenges.

Duites:

  • Assist Community Project Managers in coordinating and implementing mental health promotion activities and selected EBPs aimed increasing awareness of mental illnesses, decreasing stigma, ensuring early identification and referral to behavioral health  services.
  • Assist program- and school administrators in establishing referral pathways to ensure student assistance beyond brief intervention.
  • Assist school administrators and care providers to review and update or develop school safety and threat/violence prevention plans for each of the school districts.
  • Obtain trainer certification for QPR and MHFA to ensure programmatic sustainability.
  • Recruit and assist families with navigation of natural, helping networks and peer supports.
  • Assist with the development of recovery/resiliency plans, crisis management plans and maintain care coordination records as needed.
  • Advocate for tribal youth at school and at home when deemed necessary to promote positive self-care and resiliency.
  • Maintain a regular dialogue of all enrolled youth, adults and partners.
  • Assist with direct community/school outreach communications campaigns to educate tribal youth about the need for mental health services and the natural supports that exist at all venues.
  • Attend mandatory AWARE, school and community meetings.
  • Assist in creating partnerships between tribal leaders, tribal programs, Native American organizations, other supportive organizations, and state policy makers to strengthen the AWARE Initiatives.
  • Facilitate culturally competent youth directed activities consistent with achieving the goals of the AWARE Program.
  • Assist with training activities related to the AWARE program for youth, partners and project coalition participants.
  • Assist with management of office functions; copying, facility reservations, equipment checkout, ordering supplies, managing communications and other relevant duties as assigned.
  • Assist assigned community project manager, behavioral health provider and project director in carrying out other grant related activities.

Qualifications:

 

  • Education:  HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience/Basic Knowledge: Job related experience is required (e.g. knowledge of statewide and local public education systems, behavioral health systems specifically serving children with mental health needs and their families. Program management and planning experience required to establish local strategic plans. Experience in social services and/or educational program networking.
  • Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license. Obtain a Peer Support Worker certification within one year of employment.
  • Physical Requirements: Must have manual dexterity to enter and retrieve data from a computer. Ability to sit and stand for long periods. Bends and stoops regularly.
  • Preferences: San Felipe Tribal Member and Keres Speaking Preference.
