Job Description:

Perform installation of new water and sewer pipes and responds to emergency repairs. Installs drain fields, tanks, corporation stops, curb boxes, water valves and new piping. Have knowledge in using transits and heavy construction equipment and other tools. Operate heavy equipment under the direction of construction lead operator. Be able to attend trainings in OSHA, and get certified in the water operator level I.

Duites:

  • Assist construction lead operator in figuring the amount of materials needed in water hook ups and drain field installations.
  • Directs in hot tapping of water main and sewer man when lead operator absent.
  • Excavates where pipes are to be installed and fills in as a competent person.
  • Measures and keeps field record of pipe fitting installations. 
  • Rehabilitates failed septic tanks and drain field system. 
  • Installs new septic tanks, drain fields and excavates for septic tanks. 
  • Use transit or level to ensure proper drainage of sewer pipe. 
  • Must be safety minded and bean ale to operate all construction equipment in safe manner. 
  • Must be able to interpret and work of blue print and as-built. 
  • Figure where concrete reinforcement and backing is required.  
  • Must have knowledge on what it means (call before you dig) and all the utility marking established on the ground.  
  • Knows all the safety road signage’s to be installed when working on or close to the roads. 
  • Responds to emergency repairs or water, sewer mains and service lines. 
  • Maintains 40 hours of training per year. 
  • Informs public of safety for water and sewer system and hazards as it occurs. 
  • Informs lead operator on equipment, tools and vehicles condition.

Qualifications:

  • Education:  HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience/Basic Knowledge: Three years of construction installation experience and/or trade school. Must have two or more years of experience as a heavy equipment operator, (front-end loader, backhoe and dump truck).
  • Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical Requirements: 100% physical ability to lift, push and pull a minimum of fifty pounds. It requires standing, operating construction equipment (temping machines, power saws and jack hammer). 100% hearing at all times. Bends and stoops regularly. 

Working Conditions:

Employee frequently exposed to variable weather.  Work performed in unclean areas and unpleasant odors.   Person works around hazardous conditions (chemicals, gases, slippery areas and heavy equipment).  Physically demanding work and noise level are extreme to moderate.
