Job Description:

This is a community-based position that serves the residents of the Pueblo of San Felipe. The incumbent will be responsible for aiding in the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds surrounding the equine property. Incumbent is also expected to help with basic internal/external building repairs and maintenance. Incumbent must possess skills needed to operate farm machinery.

Duites:

  • Grounds Maintenance: Assist Groundskeeper in year-round seasonal cleaning including but not limited to: clearing weeds/brush, raking leaves/grass and pruning, as needed. Other maintenance duties involve trash pick-up, cleaning gutters, fence repair and sweeping walkways of debris.
  • Animal care: Assist in cleaning animal pens and surrounding areas as needed; feed, water, clean manure, rake hay, unload hay/feed and assist with health care of animals. Empty trash daily, sweep barn floors and outdoor walkways.
  • Equipment Operation: Possess knowledge/experience in operating equipment, including but not limited to, leaf blower, lawn mowers, weed eaters, and chainsaw.  
  • Agricultural Management: Help groundskeeper maintain all irrigation systems, manage all timber lands and fire protection, support plans to restore habitat, protect ecosystems, and facilitate conservation easements.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

As “Essential Staff” may be required to be available for on-call duty coverage and must be prepared to work on days determined to be Tribal Holidays or Administrative Leave.

Qualifications:

Education:  HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience/Basic Knowledge: Any experience, volunteer or paid, in agricultural work preferred. Display a willingness to learn.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid and unencumbered New Mexico driver’s license. No moving violations for minimum of three years prior to date of hire. Incumbent must successfully pass background checks for school systems serving Tribal children.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be comfortable around horses and other animals, able to lift 80 lbs. and work outdoors for long hours. Preferences: San Felipe Tribal Member and Keres Speaking Preference.

Working Conditions:

Exposure to outside weather in all seasons is necessary due to required maintenance of grounds and care of animals. Travel is often on unimproved roads. Exposure to infections and communicable disease is possible.

Incumbent will be directly supervised by the Equine Director and Groundskeeper.
