The Water Operator II position shall require experience in the construction of water and sewer projects.

Job Description:

The Water Operator II position shall require experience in the construction of water and sewer projects. The employee must be willing to obtain Water Operator certifications up to Level II. The Pueblo of San Felipe will provide training opportunities and cover associated costs required to attain certification. The position requires prior experience in construction or a related field and basic knowledge of, and the ability to operate, small heavy equipment, including skid steers, mini-excavators, backhoes, and loaders. The employee must also be willing to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) if requested by the Supervisor or the PIA Director.

Duites:

Assist with the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of water and sewer mains, service lines, appurtenances, and water and sewer construction projects undertaken by the PIA. Utilize a variety of hand and power tools and equipment, including shovels, rakes, sledgehammers, power drills, power saws, grease guns, air tools, water pumps, jumping-jack and flat-plate tampers, as well as operate backhoes, trucks, and trailers as required. Perform assigned work in accordance with instructions provided by the foreman and other personnel designated by the foreman for utility construction projects undertaken by the PIA. Must be available to work on off duty hours for emergency water and sewer repairs.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be willing to obtain up to an EPA Water Operator Certifications up to Level 2.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be willing to obtain up to a Level 2 Water Certification from EPA. Must assist to maintain Water System. Must have knowledge of operation of small heavy equipment. Must be able to take direction and be familiar with a variety of hand tools. Will help in completing water utility construction projects. Will be responsible for learning all safety requirements of the department and be required to attend training as needed. Must be will to assist with obtaining water samples for testing in accordance to Tribal Safe Drinking Water Act Sample schedules.
  • Required Licenses/Certifications: A valid driver’s license.  Work towards Level II Water Certification.
  • Physical Requirements: The physical demands require outside work in all seasons and for prolonged periods of time. May require driving in variable weather conditions. Requires walking in undeveloped and uneven terrain.
  • Preferences: San Felipe Member Preference, Native American Preference and Veteran’s Preference.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Keres speaking is desirable.
