The HWD Pharmacy provides professional, comprehensive pharmacy services to the Katishtya community members under the San Felipe Title I 93-638 IHS Contract. The Pharmacy services are integrally linked to the IHS medical clinic services of the San Felipe IHS Health Center. This configuration has been remarked as “unique” in all of the Tribal-IHS health services in the Nation and posed special challenges in maintaining integration of health care with regard to continuity of care and inter-agency collaboration of services delivery and management. Despite these challenges, the San Felipe HWD Pharmacy continues to provide one of the most productive and quality-based service to the patients visiting the health clinics, in all of the IHS Santa Fe Area Service Unit.

Together we work to Honor and Empower our People

The San Felipe Systems of Care is a framework that organizes an array of services, resources, and partners with the aim of responding to the behavioral health needs of the San Felipe community in a coordinated way. Systems of Care is not a specific program or service, but it serves as the umbrella under which culturally-based prevention and treatment services are guided by a unified vision of working collaboratively toward accessible, equitable, and culturally appropriate services for San Felipe tribal members.

San Felipe Systems of Care:

SOC engages stakeholders in identifying and removing systemic barriers to care. Our team members and partners are essential to mobilizing efforts within our community. The wisdom and lived experience of our teams enhance our collective vision to enhance western modalities of care with culturally-based interventions.

In addition to systems-planning, SOC works closely with the University of New Mexico Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Sciences Evaluation team to implement evaluation, comprehensive data collection, and continuous quality improvement activities that compile, measure, and assess performance across all SOC projects. The evaluation team utilizes Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) principles and processes to all tribal data collection efforts and prioritizes a collaborative work process that ensures tribal voice and perspective guide every aspect of research and evaluation.

Services that fall under SOC Include:

BH2I I-CARE (Integrated Health Care), grant funded by Indian Health Services
Project AWARE (In-school Educational Supports), grant funded by SAMHSA
Project KEVA (Tribal Home Visiting), grant funded by Administration for Children and Families

Katishtya Intergenerational Cultural Knowledge Sessions (K.I.C.K.S)

“We are all born with an innate capacity for resilience, by which we are able to develop social competence, problem-solving skills, a critical consciousness, autonomy, and a sense of purpose.”

– San Felipe Elder

K.I.C.K.S. is a program to promote resiliency and positive connections between San Felipe youth and elders. Katishtya’s culture is built on a vision and commitment that is inclusive of the whole community, and through KICKS, youth discover the protective factors upon which Katishtya lifeways have sustained our Pueblo people. These protective factors are grouped into three major categories: caring and supportive relationships, positive and high expectations, and meaningful participation, and they are key to building and raising happy, healthy children. Through KICKS, elders share culture, language, and history with San Felipe youth to reinforce social skills, self-confidence, self-control, problem-solving, self-expression, and healthy communication and relationships. Youth discover the pathways to become a contributing member of the Katishtya community, and in doing so become encouraged to hold the role of future knowledge-bearers and carry the Pueblo legacy for future generations.

Principles of KICKS

  • Social Competence
  • Problem-solving Skills
  • Autonomy
  • Historical Trauma
  • Resilience
  • Spiritual Connectedness
